Every perception takes place in an atmosphere of generality, and is presented to us anonymously. I cannot say ‘I see the blue of the sky’ in the sense in which I say I understood a book, or that I have decided to devote my life to mathematics....Every time I experience a sensation, I feel that it concerns not my own being, the one for which I am responsible, and for which I make decisions, but another self, which has already sided with the world, which is already open to certain of its aspects, and synchronized with them. Between my sensation and myself there stands always the thickness of some primordial acquisition which prevents my experience from being clear to itself (Primacy of perception, 215-216, Maurice Meleau-Ponty).

Exhibited at Apartment, coordinated by David O'Halloran.

The exhibition utilised a streaming webcam located in Oxford, UK. The image projected onto the venetian blinds in the gallery space superimposed the distant equivalent view onto the window of the local site. The blind acting as metaphor and screen. Light fluctuations from the local site and the streaming image a focus of the work as were contrasts in traffic sound from the local site and the distant location.
